Transforming Adversity Retreat

SAT, Apr 13

10:00am - 1:00pm

with Gen Kelsang Chokyi, Resident Teacher

Is it possible to keep a happy mind when facing adversities? Following Buddha’s timeless teachings, we can learn how to transform adversities into a spiritual path. Rather than being overwhelmed our discouraged by these difficult situations or painful memories, we can use them to encourage ourselves to purify using the four opponent powers.

“If the roof of our house is leaking and water is dripping through the ceiling, we do not sit back and do nothing – we try to find the hole and mend it. Similarly, when we experience suffering, we should consider its cause, non-virtuous actions, and apply the remedy, purification. Rather than being preoccupied with the suffering itself, we should apply the solution.”
- Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche

On this retreat you will learn:

– How to transform adverse conditions into a spiritual path
– How to purify negative potentials through the four opponent powers
– How to channel our actions in a virtuous direction using daily life experiences

The retreat is suitable for all meditation levels, including beginners. It includes guided meditations, short teachings as well as a written Q&A in the last session. Everyone can benefit from this retreat — you don't have to be Buddhist to participate.

This retreat is followed by a vegetarian lunch ($8), please register for the lunch online by Thursday, April 11 to participate so we can prepare accordingly.

You can register for the retreat online or in person at KMC Bloomington's reception.
