HEART JEWEL Talk

FRI, Nov 11 | 6 - 7:30pm
with Gen Kelsang Chokyi
In this evening talk, Gen Chokyi will be exploring the powerful benefits of the Migstema Prayer. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso says that “The practice of Migtsema is very important for fulfilling both one’s own and others’ wishes.This prayer was composed by Manjushri and revealed in the Kadam Emanation Scripture.”
The Migtsema prayer is as follows:
Tsongkhapa, crown ornament of the scholars of the Land of the Snows,
You are Avalokiteshvara, the treasury of unobservable compassion,
Manjushri, the supreme stainless wisdom,
And Vajrapani, the destroyer of the hosts of maras;
O Losang Dragpa I request you, please grant your blessings
This series is focusing on the precious chanted prayer and heart practice of the New Kadampa Tradition called "Heart Jewel." In order to deepen our experience of meditation, we need to purify obstacles in our mind, accumulate good fortune or merit and receive the powerful wisdom blessings of Je Tsongkhapa — we do this through harnessing the meaning of the chanted prayers.
Gen Kelsang Chokyi will be using the book "Heart Jewel: The Essential Practices of Kadampa Buddhism" to deepen our understanding of the power of prayer, the function of prayer and how prayer can transform our minds and benefit others.
“Nowadays, we can see in the world so many problems, people experiencing so many difficulties. Storms, famines, floods, incurable diseases, wars, earthquakes, etc.
People are asking me, what should we Buddhists do to help these problems? I replied, we cannot be involved in any political problem or it becomes worse. Our job is, we pray, we pray for these obstacles to be pacified. We pray for people to pacify their negativity, wrong views, their extreme views, through prayer. Our job to solve these kinds of problems is we pray for everybody to become friends. To have harmony, good relationships, to pacify their wrong views of selfish intention. This is our job."
